Recent expansion of our services has created an additional need for a Community Programme Officer to support people from minority and/or disadvantaged communities, especially those who identify as refugees or asylum seekers (sanctuary seekers), as well as individuals newly arrived in the UK who require additional support to access mainstream services. If you have experience in community development work and running campaigns, we would like to hear from you. This role is ideal for someone who has worked with diverse communities or in a similar setting.
This dynamic role is suited to someone with excellent organisational skills and the ability to motivate and inspire people to participate. The successful applicant will need to work on their own initiative, be a “can do person”, and demonstrate creativity.
You will develop activities, increase membership, recruit volunteers, manage our social media platforms and encourage participation. Activities to date have included social outings, festive events, information sessions, ESOL support, digital skills training, art sessions, yoga, Zumba and health walks.
The programme of activities will engage people from all backgrounds, cultures and races across the borough of Richmond. It may consist of group activities, outings, talks and other events, shaped by the needs and interests of the people you support. Additionally, the Community Programme Officer will deliver an anti-racism programme and work in partnership with other agencies to support its implementation. You will also act as a guide and mentor to community members, supporting them to organise sessions, promote activities and develop a programme of events.
You will have excellent communication, IT and administrative skills, and be fully competent in Microsoft applications. You will have the ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
This role is subject to an enhanced DBS check. Multicultural Richmond is an equal opportunities employer.
You must be eligible to work in the UK.
